The Certainty Of Victory In Yeshua: Spiritual Warfare In Modern Times For Messianic Believers

Introduction: The Spiritual Battle We Face

As Messianic Jewish believers, we are part of a larger, ongoing spiritual battle. This battle is not one that we can see with our physical eyes, but it is real nonetheless. The forces of darkness seek to undermine the truth of God, hinder His people, and bring division, despair, and confusion. Yet, in the midst of this warfare, we are given a powerful truth: the victory is already assured in Yeshua.

In this chapter, we will explore the certainty of our victory in Yeshua through the lens of Torah Law, the blood of Yeshua, and the power of the Holy Spirit. We will see that this victory was not just a future promise but a present reality that empowers us to stand firm, knowing that we fight not for victory, but from it.

1. The Promise of Victory in the Tanakh

From the earliest chapters of the Tanakh (the Hebrew Scriptures), God's promise of victory for His people is clear. The ultimate triumph of God over the powers of darkness and evil was foretold long before Yeshua’s birth, and the certainty of that victory was established through His covenant with Israel.

One of the earliest promises comes from Genesis 3:15, where God speaks to the serpent, foreshadowing the ultimate defeat of evil:

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

This promise, given immediately after the fall of Adam and Eve, is often referred to as the "protoevangelium" (the first gospel). It speaks of a future victory over the powers of evil through the seed of the woman, an allusion to the coming Messiah, Yeshua, who would crush the head of the serpent (Satan) and defeat sin, death, and the forces of darkness.

In Isaiah 9:6-7, another powerful prophecy speaks of the future reign of the Messiah, who would bring about a kingdom of peace and righteousness:

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this."

Yeshua, the promised Messiah, is the fulfillment of this prophecy. His kingdom, which began with His first coming, will ultimately prevail over all powers and authorities. This passage assures us that the victory He won is not temporary or conditional but eternal and absolute.

In Isaiah 25:8, God promises to remove death itself, an ultimate sign of His victory:

"He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken."

This prophecy points directly to Yeshua’s victory over death through His resurrection, which guarantees the eventual triumph over all evil forces, including death itself.

2. Torah Law: The Foundation of Victory

In the Torah, we find God’s instructions for His people, guiding them in righteousness and holiness. But the Torah also reveals humanity's inability to perfectly fulfill God’s commands, making it clear that a Savior is necessary.

Leviticus 17:11 underscores the centrality of blood in atonement and reconciliation with God:

"For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life."

The Torah establishes that sin brings separation from God, but the blood of an innocent sacrifice could temporarily cover that sin. However, these sacrifices were insufficient for true and lasting reconciliation with God. This is where the victory of Yeshua becomes essential. As the ultimate sacrifice, Yeshua’s blood not only covers sin but eradicates it, securing eternal victory for all who believe in Him.

Deuteronomy 30:6 promises a future time when God will bring His people to a place of spiritual renewal and victory:

"The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live."

This promise points to the new covenant that would be realized in Yeshua, where God would write His law on the hearts of His people and empower them to live according to His will. This promise is fulfilled through the work of the Holy Spirit, who enables believers to live in victory over sin.

The Torah, while revealing humanity’s need for a Savior, also prepares the way for the ultimate victory that comes through Yeshua, who perfectly fulfills the Law and grants victory to all who are in Him.

3. The Blood of Yeshua: The Key to Our Victory

The blood of Yeshua is the ultimate expression of God’s love and the decisive factor in the believer’s victory. In the Tanakh, the blood of sacrifices was necessary for atonement, but Yeshua’s sacrifice once and for all secured the victory over sin, death, and the powers of darkness.

Isaiah 53:5 prophesies the suffering and victory of the Messiah:

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed."

Through His blood, Yeshua took upon Himself the punishment for our sins, securing peace and healing for all who trust in Him. His blood represents the ultimate sacrifice, one that is sufficient for the forgiveness of all sins and the defeat of every spiritual enemy. It is through His blood that we can claim victory over the forces of darkness.

In Revelation 12:11, we read about the power of the blood of Yeshua in the context of spiritual warfare:

"They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death."

The blood of Yeshua is not only the means by which we are saved but also the means by which we triumph over the enemy. It is the weapon that secures our victory in spiritual warfare, and it is through the blood of Yeshua that we are protected and empowered to stand firm against the enemy.

4. The Holy Spirit: The Power for Victory

The Holy Spirit is the agent of God’s power at work in the believer’s life. In the Tanakh, the Spirit is often associated with empowerment for service and victory. The promise of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence was given to Israel, and through Yeshua, that promise was fulfilled for all believers.

Zechariah 4:6 declares:

"So he said to me, 'This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty."

The Holy Spirit is the source of our strength in spiritual warfare. It is by the Spirit that we are empowered to overcome sin, to resist temptation, and to stand firm against the attacks of the enemy.

Ezekiel 36:27 promises that God will place His Spirit within His people:

"I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws."

This promise is fulfilled in Yeshua. When we place our faith in Him, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us, giving us the ability to walk in victory. The Spirit convicts us of sin, empowers us for righteousness, and equips us to engage in spiritual warfare.

5. The Certainty of Victory in Yeshua

The certainty of victory is the central message of the gospel. Through Yeshua, we are assured of victory over sin, death, and all the powers of darkness. The battle may be intense, and the enemy may wage war against us, but we fight from a position of victory. Yeshua has already secured the ultimate victory through His death and resurrection.

Psalm 108:13 reminds us of the certainty of victory in God:

"With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies."

As Messianic Jewish believers, we are called to stand firm in the victory that Yeshua has already won. Our victory is not dependent on our own strength or ability but on His finished work. We can face spiritual battles with confidence, knowing that the outcome is certain and that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Conclusion: Walking in the Certainty of Victory

The certainty of victory in Yeshua is not just a theological concept but a living reality for every believer. Through the promises of the Tanakh, the fulfillment of those promises in Yeshua, and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we can walk in the victory that has been secured for us. The enemy may try to discourage us, but we can stand firm, knowing that the battle has already been won.

Victory is ours in Yeshua—today, tomorrow, and forever. As we engage in spiritual warfare, let us do so with the confidence that comes from knowing that our Savior has already triumphed over all the powers of darkness. We are not fighting for victory; we are fighting from a position of victory in Yeshua.
