How Yeshua Sets Us Free From All Forms Of Enslavement: The Curse Ends Here: How To Break Free From Family Iniquity
The Promise of Freedom in Messiah
Freedom is a central theme in the Scriptures, woven throughout the Tanakh and fulfilled in the life and mission of Yeshua. From the Israelites’ liberation from Egypt to Yeshua proclaiming liberty to the captives, God’s heart is to free His people from every form of enslavement. Enslavement takes many forms—spiritual bondage, generational iniquity, emotional trauma, and physical oppression—but Yeshua came to break every chain and usher us into a life of freedom under the sovereignty of Adonai.
The prophet Isaiah foretold:
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”
(Isaiah 61:1)
Yeshua confirmed this prophecy when He began His public ministry:
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
(Luke 4:18)
Through His death and resurrection, Yeshua fulfilled the promise of ultimate deliverance. His mission was to break the yoke of sin, remove the curses of disobedience, and lead us into a covenant relationship with God that guarantees freedom from all forms of bondage.
Freedom from Sin
The most significant form of enslavement is sin, which separates us from God and entangles us in cycles of rebellion and iniquity. As the Torah teaches:
“The soul who sins shall die.”
(Ezekiel 18:20)
Generational iniquity compounds this reality, as patterns of sin are often passed down through families. Yet, God promises mercy and forgiveness for those who turn to Him:
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
(2 Chronicles 7:14)
Yeshua sets us free by offering Himself as the ultimate atonement for sin. He restores us to God and removes the power of sin over our lives:
“Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
(John 8:34, 36)
This freedom is not only a future promise but a present reality for those who accept Yeshua’s sacrifice and walk in His ways.
Freedom from Generational Curses
Many families experience patterns of destruction, such as poverty, addiction, broken relationships, or spiritual oppression. These patterns are often the result of generational iniquity, as described in the Torah:
“The LORD is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.”
(Numbers 14:18)
But Yeshua came to break these cycles. Through His blood, we are given the power to renounce generational curses and reclaim our inheritance as children of God. The prophet Ezekiel assures us that generational punishment is not inevitable for those who repent:
“Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son.”
(Ezekiel 18:19-20)
Yeshua’s victory on the cross empowers us to reject the sins of our ancestors and establish a new legacy of righteousness.
Freedom from Fear and Oppression
Fear is another form of enslavement, often tied to spiritual oppression or traumatic experiences. God repeatedly commands His people not to fear but to trust in His protection and provision:
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
(Deuteronomy 31:6)
Yeshua assures us that we have no reason to live in fear because of His authority over all powers of darkness:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
(John 14:27)
Through His name, we have authority to rebuke fear and break the hold of spiritual oppression in our lives and families.
Practical Steps to Walk in Freedom
-
Acknowledge Yeshua as the Source of Freedom
Recognize that deliverance is not achieved through human effort but through the power of Yeshua. Confess your dependence on Him and invite Him to break every chain in your life. -
Renounce Bondage
Renounce any agreement with sin, generational curses, or oppressive forces. Speak aloud, declaring your freedom in Yeshua’s name.“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust.”
(Psalm 18:2) -
Repent and Turn to God
Repentance is the gateway to freedom. Turn away from any sin or behavior that may have opened the door to bondage, and commit to walking in obedience to God’s commandments. -
Immerse Yourself in Scripture
The Word of God is a weapon against enslavement. Meditate on Scriptures that affirm your freedom in Yeshua and declare His promises over your life.“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
(Psalm 119:105) -
Seek Community Support
Surround yourself with fellow believers who will encourage you, pray for you, and hold you accountable in your journey to freedom. -
Walk Daily in Covenant Obedience
Freedom is sustained through a life of obedience to God. Each day, choose to honor Him in your thoughts, words, and actions, trusting that He will continue to lead you into greater freedom.
A New Identity in Yeshua
Through Yeshua, we are no longer slaves but children of God, heirs to His promises and participants in His covenant.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
(John 1:12)
This new identity empowers us to live in the fullness of freedom, unburdened by the sins and curses of the past. Let this be the day you declare:
“The curse ends here. Through Yeshua, I am set free from all forms of enslavement, and I will walk in the blessings and freedom of God’s covenant.”
Trust in Yeshua, and He will guide you into a life of lasting freedom, peace, and joy.
